A quantity-break rule rewards a shopper for buying several units of the same product instead of just one — for example "buy 3 or more, save 15%". This guide covers only this one discount type, from the "Add a discount" form on a sale event's detail page (from the Shopify App Store, once installed).
What makes quantity break different from the other discount types
The other three discount types in SalePilot (percentage off a collection, percentage off specific products, percentage off specific variants) change the listed price itself while the sale runs, then restore it on revert.
A quantity-break rule works differently: it runs as a Shopify Automatic Discount. The listed price you see on the product page stays exactly the same — the discount is applied at checkout, once the shopper's cart reaches the minimum quantity you set.
Because of this, quantity-break rules are not included in SalePilot's price preview. The "Go live" section of the sale event page notes: "Preview only shows percentage-off changes ahead of time — quantity-break rules apply as native Shopify discounts, with no preview available for them." There is nothing wrong if you add a quantity-break rule and don't see it reflected in a preview — that is expected.

Step 1: Open the sale event you want to add the rule to
From the SalePilot dashboard, click "View all sale events" (or open the sale event directly from the "Sale Events" list). On the sale event's detail page, scroll to the "What's discounted" section and find the "Added discounts" card.

Step 2: Choose "Quantity break" as the discount type
In the "Add a discount" form, open the "Discount type" choice list. Select the option labelled "Quantity break (buy more, save more)". Its one-line explanation reads: "Runs as a Shopify Automatic Discount — the listed price stays the same, the discount applies at checkout."

Step 3: Fill in the three fields
Once "Quantity break" is selected, three fields appear:
- Minimum quantity — how many units of the same product a shopper must add to their cart before the discount kicks in. This field defaults to 3. Change it to whatever threshold makes sense for your sale (for example, 2 for a "buy 2, save" offer, or 5 for a bulk deal).
- Percentage off — how much is taken off the price once the minimum quantity is reached. This field defaults to 15%. The in-app guidance says: "Enter a whole number between 1 and 100."
- Collection — a picker for the collection whose products this rule applies to. You must choose a collection here; there is no "specific products" or "specific variants" option for quantity-break rules.

Step 4: Add the rule
Click "Add rule" to save the quantity-break rule to this sale event.
If you haven't chosen a collection yet, the "Add rule" button stays disabled and shows the inline reason "Choose a collection to add this discount." Pick a collection and the button becomes clickable.

Step 5: Confirm the rule appears in the discount rules table
After adding it, the new rule shows up in the "Discount rules" table above the form, with these columns: Type, Applies to, Amount, State, Actions.
- Type will read "Quantity break".
- State starts as "Not applied yet" and updates once the sale goes live (see the "Go live" section of the sale event page for applying the sale).
- Actions always show "Revert" (undoes just this one rule) and "Delete", regardless of the rule's current state.

What to expect once the sale is live
Because a quantity-break rule is a native Shopify Automatic Discount, shoppers won't see a struck-through price on the product page the way they would with a percentage-off rule. The discount only appears once they've added enough units to their cart to meet the minimum quantity, and it's applied automatically at checkout — no discount code needed.
